Palestine: U.N. Aid Operation In Gaza Works Flat Out
Palestine - June 7, 2024
[Note: video contains Arabic language]
The inflow of displaced Gazans entering the city of Khan Younis is straining humanitarian and health services, forcing many to live in dire conditions, the World Health Organisation said.
1: SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ahmed Muhammad Abdel-Al, Displaced Person:
“Today there’s nothing available; the situation we are living in the displacement camps is completely difficult. We have no firewood available, no gas, no food for children, there’s no life means or basics. The simplest things such as water, we can’t have it provided to our children. Nappies/diapers are also not available. And as you know, it’s been what? Seven or eight months without work.”
2: SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Iman Al-Habal, Displaced Person:
“As you can see water is not available, I am diabetic and I need to drink a lot of water, and I also had kidney stones. I want clean water to drink, I actually go to the sea to bring and take baths in there, this is the problem. I can’t even find water to wash my hands after I baked. We are buying water now, even though we can’t afford to buy it for long.”
3: SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Displaced Person:
“I went through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine treatment, and thank God, that the disease has been controlled but as a result of the situation, and how difficult it is, the health centres here in the shelter areas, have nothing available; no painkillers, no endoscopies, so I can’t have a proper check-up on my health. As you can see, the situation we are currently living in is a complete suffering.”
4: SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Malak Rahim, Displaced Person
“The tents are as you can see… it’s too hot, no gas, no firewood, and I swear to God, it’s too difficult to get firewood for me to cook anything for the kids, I had a gas cylinder and someone took it from me, the situation is extremely difficult to the extent that if my girl was hungry at night. There’s literally nothing that I can use to make her some food. I am urging everyone for a solution. My daughter is also sick she has to be treated by (insulin) needles; she should take one in the morning and one in the evening. She’s asking me for things that neither me nor her father can provide. No water, no food, I take my laundry to wash it in the sea with salty water. My life is extremely difficult and frankly I don’t know what to do anymore.”
