Gaza Strip - June 6, 2024

Storyline:
Gaza authorities on Friday refuted a list of casualties published by Israel following its air strike targeting a school housing displaced people in the Nuseirat camp in the Palestinian enclave on Thursday.

At Friday midnight local time, the Government Media Office in Gaza held a press conference to refute the Israeli military's claim that the victims in the air strike were armed personnel.

The Israeli military previously claimed that the air strike killed 20 to 30 gunmen hiding in the school and released a list of 17 names, stating that all the individuals were members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations.

However, data released by the Government Media Office in Gaza showed that the Israeli air strike resulted in 40 deaths, including 14 children and nine women. Furthermore, the list of casualties released by the Israeli military contained significant inaccuracies. It included the names of three Gazan civilians who are still alive and several individuals who had died before the air strike occurred, said the office.

Israel has been staging a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on October 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage.
