Rare giant blue carp knocked unconscious by dragon boat paddle during practice in China
A rare giant blue carp was knocked unconscious by a paddle during a dragon boat race practice ahead the festival in China.
The video was filmed in Mayang County in Hunan Province on June 8.
A massive blue carp weighing about 30 kilograms unexpectedly surfaced during a dragon boat team’s practice and was accidentally struck unconscious by a paddle.
The dragon boat team was in the midst of an intense warm-up session, gearing up for the upcoming traditional Mayang Dragon Boat Race. As the team members paddled vigorously, the giant blue carp inadvertently swam too close to the boat. Unfortunately, it collided with the powerful paddles and was knocked unconscious, floating belly-up on the water’s surface.
Stunned by the sudden turn of events, some team members attempted to rescue the fish. After a brief recovery, the carp sank back into the water, only to be retrieved by another team member. Despite their efforts, the blue carp did not survive and was eventually brought ashore.
The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday that occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings called zongzi.
