Truck crashes through petrol station's concrete fence 'when driver falls asleep'
A pickup truck crashed through the concrete fence of a petrol station when its driver allegedly fell asleep.
CCTV footage shows the out-of-control Mazda vehicle swerving from the road into the front of an establishment, demolishing an electric pole on the way in Roi Et province, Thailand on May 30 afternoon.
It slammed and broke through the fence and hitting a resident's house before coming to a stop.
The car driver Khamjan Klangmueang, 68, was stuck inside the driver's seat when the emergency responders arrived. He was extracted by rescuers and rushed to Nonghee Hospital.
Police Captain Sunthorn Radapat of Nonghee Police Station said: ‘We received a report of the accident at the gas station around 12:30 pm.
‘We went to the scene with the rescue team and found the driver.'
Khamjan was checked by medics but he did not have any serious injuries aside from a stiff neck which they said was likely due to being strained by the seatbelt during the impact.
Investigations are ongoing but locals who knew Khamjan had told police that the old man might have dozed off as he would usually work in the farm fields despite his old age.
Police Captain Sunthorn added: ‘We will investigate to find the actual cause of the accident to proceed with legal action.'
No one else was hurt from the crash.
