Footage shows more than 1,300 troops performing a parachute jump to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France.

The servicemen from different Alliec countries joined the ceremony in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Normandy, on June 9.

U.S. military chiefs said that 'commemorative events such as these serve to honor the sacrifices U.S. service members made 80 years ago in securing peace and security and inspiring future generations to value a collective vision of global peace'.

The descent was a commemoration of the historic World War II D-Day landing on its 80th anniversary.

The D-Day landings, also known as Operation Neptune, were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on June 6, 1944, of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. It is the largest seaborne invasion in history.
