Smoke emitting from a ship anchored in Makassar, Indonesia, sparked panic amongst its passengers on June 9.

According to reports, 1,084 passengers were on board.

Motorboats in Indonesia are causing thousands of passengers to panic and try to get off the ship to save themselves.

A motor ship named Umsini caught fire while anchored at Makassar Harbor, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, Sunday 9 June 2024.

The ship arrived from Baubau City to Surabaya City, East Java, then transited at Makassar Port, this week. However, tragically, when he wanted to continue his journey to the city of Surabaya, the ship suddenly emitted smoke which could be seen from deck 2 or the engine section. Puffs of smoke came out of the ship's engine room and immediately caught fire.

When smoke came out of the engine room, thousands of kilometers of Umsini passengers immediately panicked and tried to get off the ship to save themselves, which resulted in one passenger falling down the ship's ladder.

"This ship had a fire in the engine room, we thought it was there. We still don't know the source of the fire, we will check later. We from Labfor are already on standby so we can board the ship together," said Makassar Port Police Chief, Akbp Yudi. Frianto , On Sunday 9 June 2021.

Reportedly the ship was carrying 1,084 passengers consisting of passengers, 718 passengers bound for Surabaya City, and 652 connecting passengers.
