A daughter surprised her mum with money hanging on umbrella as a birthday gift.

Jenny Rose Amita said she was running out of ideas to maker her mother's special day happier until she thought of putting banknotes onto the parasol and give it to the old woman as she was leaving home.

Footage shows mum Maria Nenita Alcaraz Contrano, 72, taking the umbrella from the garage and opening it in Cavite, the Philippines on May 23.

However, Jenny and her daughter burst into laughter as the distracted pensioner did not immediately notice the surprise so they pointed it out.

Jenny said: ‘She is a retired public school teacher. Every year we make it a point to give her a surprise. She didn't like bags, jewelries, or shoes but since she had a loan to pay for we gave her money.'

The total amount of money in the umbrella was 15,000 PHP ((200.98 GBP).
