Shocking video shows animal cruelty in RSPCA-assured farms in UK
A damning expose has rocked the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) as Animal Rising, a prominent animal rights organization, unveiled distressing footage from over 40 UK farms endorsed by the charity's animal welfare scheme. The footage, released on June 9, paints a harrowing picture of animal suffering, with scenes depicting baby chickens perishing in factory farms and pigs left to rot in squalid sheds.
Rose Patterson, Co-Director of Animal Rising, expressed shock and dismay at the revelations, accusing the RSPCA of turning a blind eye to cruelty in pursuit of profit. Patterson stated, "This investigation has blown the lid off the RSPCA’s dirty secret; it is happy to rubber stamp cruelty on factory farms and industrial animal abuse."
Chris Packham, President of the RSPCA, echoed Patterson's sentiments, urging the charity to suspend its Assured Scheme and take decisive action to safeguard animal welfare. The expose follows previous investigations by groups such as Animal Justice Project and VIVA!, raising serious questions about the efficacy of the RSPCA's oversight.
Former RSPCA Vice-President Peter Egan expressed deep concern over the findings, calling into question the integrity of the Assured Scheme. Egan emphasized the urgent need for the RSPCA to prioritize animal welfare and hinted at the necessity of abandoning the scheme altogether.
As calls for accountability mount, Animal Rising has pledged to continue its campaign until the RSPCA terminates its Assured Scheme.
