PIO STATEMENT FROM "X" TWITTER:
This is prelim info: OIS in Foothill Div. We are still in the early stages of this investigation as there are still multiple witnesses to interview, as well as ofcrs involved. Investigators still have body worn video to review as well as any other video/evidence to examine.
Here’s what we know so far: Around 8:50 p.m. Foothill Gang Enforcement Detail officers were in the process of conducting an enforcement stop on a black BMW sedan for a traffic violation near Carl Street and Carl Place.
When they approached Carl Street and Carl Place, the front passenger of the BMW exited the car with a gun and ran from officers, according to Bruce Borihanh, Public Information Officer with the LAPD interviewed at the scene.
The suspect, described as a male in his 20s, led the officers on a short foot chase on Carl Place. It was at sometime during the foot chase, that an officer-involved shooting occurred, said Borihanh.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures prior to the arrival of paramedics. The suspect was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The suspect’s handgun was recovered at scene and booked as evidence.
No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
This is an ongoing investigation in the very early stages. The area of Pierce Street, Lehigh and Carl Street will be closed for several hours.
