Companies that make construction machinery in central China's Hunan Province are increasing production to accommodate growing demand from overseas clients.

One crane manufacturer in the region says they've seen a dramatic surge in exports with production scheduled through the end of the year. To meet demand, they are using smart devices and have expanded their production lines.

Li Lei, Vice-general manager, overseas marketing, crane manufacturer:

"From January to April, our sales reached over 440 million U.S. dollars, up 20 percent year on year. Regionally, our performance in Europe and North America was outstanding, with sales growing by 120 percent. In terms of products, our all-terrain cranes, which were previously dominated by European brands, saw a 50 percent increase compared to the same period last year."

Another company that manufactures aerial work platforms has also seen their products flying off shelves in foreign markets, with some models in short supply.

Liu Jiancun, Vice-general manager, aerial construction equipment manufacturer:

"In the first half of the year, our exports of aerial work platforms are expected to double the rate from the same period last year. Sales of our electric boom lifts are projected to increase by over 100 percent. Demand for our electric and hybrid models, ranging from 14 to 51 meters, is outrunning supply worldwide."

Customs data shows the export volume of construction machinery in Hunan Province reached nearly 4 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, surging more than 40 percent year on year.
