Villagers managed to capture two large saltwater crocodiles that were roaming around residents' home in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra.

The 3.5-metre-long reptiles were tied up to restrict their movement before being transported to the Animal Rehabilitation Center in Punti Kayu.

These two saltwater reptiles measuring 3.5 meters long were seen by local residents wandering near residents' houses in Banyuasin district, South Sumatra on June 11 2024 at 3 am, residents called the authorities to help evacuate them.

Footage shows officers from the South Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency and several residents using ropes and wooden poles to pin the animal down.

The rescue team found the reptile in front of a house near the beach and started an operation to capture it.

They tried to calm the crocodile, which struggled and turned around, trying to escape, but in the end they tied it to a pole before taking it to the Animal Rehabilitation Center in Punti Kayu.

"Because the crocodile was seen too close to residential areas in Sungai Dua Rambutan Village and was often seen crossing the road, causing residents concern, we caught it," said Sugito Harjosuwito, Officer of the South Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Center.

It is known that in Indonesia, many residential areas are located along coastlines and riverbanks, which are the main habitat for saltwater crocodiles.
