Sicily, Italy - June 12, 2024

In a challenging operation amid the rugged and scenic slopes of the Vulcano crater on the namesake Sicilian island, police officers from the IV Reparto Volo Palermo Boccadifalco, alongside members of the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Siciliano - CNSAS, successfully rescued an injured tourist. The mission unfolded as their helicopter took off from Boccadifalco Airport to reach the island.

From the air, the officers pinpointed the location of the incident along the crater's slopes and deployed a winch to reach the spot where the tourist had sustained a leg injury from a serious fall during a hiking expedition.

Once lifted aboard, the woman was swiftly airlifted to the emergency department of Milazzo Hospital for treatment.
