This is the moment campers panicked as their tents flooded from an overflowing river.

Campers were forced to flee their tents in the middle of the night when heavy rains caused a river to overflow onto their campsite in Kunming City, Yunnan, China, on June 9.

Footage shows dozens of camping shelters submerged in water, with campers frantically moving them out of the flooded field.

Upset campers have criticised the organisers of the Fenglong Bay Flower Field Water BBQ Camping Site for not issuing a warning about potential river flooding following heavy rains.

In response, the campsite organisers said: 'There was heavy rainfall and the river water began to rise slowly in the evening.

The water level peaked at about one metre [3.2 ft]. Following the rain, management promptly issued warnings and notified visitors to evacuate the campground.'

A staff member confirmed that the river water had subsided, and as a precautionary measure, the camping site would remain closed for several days.
