An injured cow that was hit by a train was tended to by locals in India.

The cow was injured by a locomotive travel along Lodha Railway Station in front of Umaria in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh on June 14, Friday.

Footage shows the weak animal being assisted by volunteers from the Atal Kamdhenu Gau Seva Sansthan Support of Amish Tiwari and local people to be taken to a clinic.

In India, devout locals follow Hindu customs, with cows regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
