A giant Burmese python stuck in a barbed wire fence after attacking a pet cat was rescued in Thailand.

The 14ft-long serpent slithered through the property and hunted the family's moggy for dinner in Prachin Buri province on June 12 evening.

But when it tried to flee at the back of the house when a resident discovered it, the python was caught on metal fencing with spikes.

Footage shows the large reptile being untangled by animal rescuers as its body was caught on the wires' spikes.

The house owner Thongchat Thamthorn's father said: ‘My daughter-in-law was looking for her cat but found the snake coiled around it.

‘We tried to scare it with a stick, and it released the cat, but it slithered to the back and was stuck in barbed wires.'

The snake, estimated to be 30kg, was taken to the vet for treatment before it was released by the officers to the forest.

The Burmese python is one of the largest snake species in the world, capable of reaching lengths of more than 23ft. They are native to Southeast Asia and inhabit marshes, swamps, and jungles where they wait to ambush birds and mammals, killing their prey through constriction.
