STORYLINE:

The main conference of the 16th Straits Forum commenced on Saturday in the coastal city of Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province. 

The 2024 forum, with the theme of expanding people-to-people exchanges and deepening integration and development, has attracted approximately 7,000 participants from the island, including representatives from political parties, industries, and social organizations.

Youths from China's Taiwan have stressed the importance of the forum, saying it boosts exchanges.

"The Straits Forum is a very important platform for cross-Strait exchanges. We often say that the mainland and Taiwan must have more exchanges. I think the young people on both sides of the Strait are very important, and they must play a key role in the future. It is very important for young people from Taiwan to come to the mainland to exchange ideas and make friends with young people in the mainland."

"This is my 4th time attending the Straits Forum. We are focusing on the cultural contents, and cultures on both sides of the Strait share the same roots. As early as 2015, we set up a company in the mainland and we have been continuously deepening our efforts there. We have high expectations and confidence in our operations on the mainland."
