Tourists were shocked when they arrived at a dried-up beach amid a drought in the Philippines.

Jamille Jackson and her friends went to San Narciso beach, which was within walking distance from the resort they booked, but they were baffled because there was no water in the sea in Zambales province.

Footage shows Jamille and her peers carrying their bags and towels across moist sand where the ocean used to be on June 1.

The green algae had also dried up with soil as the country struggled from large-scale drought due to a lack of rainfall in parts of the country.

Jamille says in the video: ‘We were excited to swim, but there was no water.

‘Me and my friends went to a beach in Zambales to enjoy the summer but when we arrived there the cottages were far from the sea. We just enjoyed the place even if it was super hot that day.'

El Nino is a major climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean that can trigger extreme weather events like droughts, heavy rains, and strong winds. It can last for more than a year and negatively affect both the global and local economies. It has impacted the Philippines in 2024, causing droughts and damage to agriculture in many regions.
