Chinese villager crosses bridge moments before it collapses in floods
A villager crossed a bridge moments before it collapsed in floods in southern China.
The CCTV footage was filmed in Meizhou City in Guangdong Province on June 16.
A bridge in Dongshi Town was obliterated by the raging waters. Astonishingly, just under a minute before the collapse, a villager had managed to cross the bridge safely.
The flooding has wreaked havoc across Pingyuan County. Beyond the destruction of the bridge, the deluge has caused widespread disruption, including road closures, submerged farmlands, and inundated homes.
In response to the dire situation, local authorities swiftly enacted emergency protocols, mobilising resources for rescue and relief operations.
Following the disaster, the Dongshi Town government promptly contacted affected villages to assess the damage and urgently relocate affected residents.
By 10:00 a.m. on June 17, authorities had successfully evacuated 6,178 people overnight, ensuring their safety.
Efforts to restore communication infrastructure are also underway, with teams working around the clock to repair damaged facilities. While connectivity has been restored in some areas, repair work continues in others to fully re-establish communication lines and enhance coordination of the ongoing relief efforts.
