At least eight people have been killed after a good train collided with a passenger train near Rangapani, West Bengal, on June 17.

Footage from the crash site shows the wagon of one of trains suspended in the air.

Emergency response teams were seen searching for survivors and pulling bodies from the wreckage.

Several passengers were injured when the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express collided with a goods train in eastern India’s West Bengal.


The incident took place near Rangapani close to New Jalpaiguri station on June 17.


Visuals showed on a track, two coaches of a train had shattered and separated. Passengers had disembarked, wandering around the area, creating a tense and chaotic atmosphere.


The Kanchanjungha Express, which departed from Agartala en route to Sealdah, collided with a goods train around 9 am near Rangapani close to New Jalpaiguri station. Initial reports indicate that the collision caused two coaches of the Kanchanjungha Express to derail, leading to injuries among passengers on board.


Emergency response teams, including local district magistrates, police personnel, Government Railway Police (GRP), NDRF Team and SDRF rescue teams, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Their immediate focus was on providing medical assistance to the injured and securing the area for further investigation.


The North Frontier Railway officials from the Katihar Division have initiated a formal investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the collision. As of now, details on the number of casualties and the severity of injuries sustained by passengers remain awaited.


The collision has disrupted railway traffic in the region, and efforts are underway to clear the tracks to restore normal operations. Authorities are urging caution and patience from commuters as the situation develops further.
