This is the bizarre moment dozens of strippers danced in front of a Hindu shrine to help a devotee's wish come true.

Footage shows the group of 50 bar hostesses in bikinis shaking their hips to the K-pop hit 'Gentleman' as they surrounded the golden four-faced Buddha statue at a shopping arcade in New Taipei City, Taiwan, on June 12.

Shrine staff said it had become a trend for devotees to hire escorts to dance at the shrine to fulfil their prayers, though no one knew how the strange practice came to be.

They said this latest performance was the largest at the shrine yet, organised by a frequent visitor believed to be in his 30s.

The unidentified man had previously also hired dancers on three separate visits, with last week's show being the grandest.

Staff estimated he had spent 200,000 NT$ (around 4,880 GBP), with each stripper costing 4,000 NT$ (around 97 GBP) to hire.

The performance was reported to have lasted 20 minutes as the strippers danced through four songs on the playlist.
