This is the dramatic moment a truck went flying through the air when one of its tires exploded.

CCTV footage shows the pickup sailing and spinning across the busy Tamru-Bangphli Road in Samut Prakan, Thailand, before landing on the pavement on June 6.

Despite the damage to their vehicle, the driver Charan Thongrueng, 61, and his wife Tubtum, 62, miraculously survived the accident with only minor injuries.

Charan said they were travelling along the highway when he allegedly blacked out at the wheel. The out-of-control truck then mounted on the sidewalk, hitting an electric pole sling that burst the front tire and sent the vehicle arcing over the highway.

Tubtum said: 'My husband was driving slowly at around 80 kph. We were almost home when suddenly, I heard a loud noise. Before I knew it we were up in the air, spinning. It felt like we were up there forever before we eventually landed.

'We were lucky we only had bruises and weren't seriously hurt. Both of us were wearing seatbelts.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
