India: Brown bear rescued from fencing by wildlife officials
Jammu and Kashmir, India - June 14, 2024
In northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir, wildlife officials successfully rescued a brown bear trapped in fencing.
The incident took place in the Dawar area of Gurez Valley, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora on June 14.
Visuals showed how the bear was rescued with a net, a lot of hardwork and patience.
Tanveer Ahmed, Wildlife Range Officer of Bandipora, reported that the bear was discovered entangled in the fencing this morning. Promptly responding to the situation, a team from the Wildlife Department arrived at the scene and carefully freed the bear without causing it any harm.
Following the successful rescue, the brown bear was released into a safe and suitable habitat. The swift action taken by the wildlife officials ensured the bear’s well-being and underscored their commitment to protecting local wildlife.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Wildlife Department to safeguard animals in the region, which is known for its diverse and rich ecosystem. The rescue operation received praise from local residents and authorities, emphasising the importance of wildlife conservation in this remote and sensitive area.
