India: Kanchanjunga train accident probe hints at 'human error'
The Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express from Agartala was hit by a goods train from the rear in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, 11 km from New Jalpaiguri station. The incident took place at 8.55 am Monday.
Chairperson and CEO of the Railway Board, Jaya Varma Sinha, pointed out a possible "human error" in the Kanchanjunga train accident which led to the death of 10 people and 36 others were injured.
She said that the probe hints at an error on the part of the loco pilot of the goods train who succumbed to the injuries from the accident. The collision may have happened because the goods train disregarded the signal and hit the Kanchanjunga Express train, which was on way to Sealdah from Agartala. At the moment line has cleared & train has started earlier morning.
