A pair of heroic pit bulls protected their owner from an imminent road rage attack in Thailand.

Truck driver Wilailai Kubka or 'Lek' was driving toward Bangkok when another lorry cut in front of him along a highway in Chumphon province on June 9.

Dashcam footage shows the other driver swaggering over to confront Lek while appearing to hold a weapon.

However, his bravado soon disappeared when Lek's burly dogs, Keaw-Ngoen and Yok-Yaek, leaned near the window growling at him.

The man then retreated into his vehicle and carried on driving.

Lek said: 'The other guy was hot-headed and tried to brake check me. He was holding a long blade. I didn't know if he wanted me to crash into him.

'I think road users should be respectful to all drivers, and not act like gangsters just because they drive big trucks. I'm not okay with the kind of behaviour he displayed.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
