Two baby monitor lizards amusingly poked their heads out from the gap between steps.

Footage shows the pair of reptiles prodding out of the space up to their necks when they were spotted by a passerby at the front of a building in Samut Sakhon province, Thailand on March 6.

Onlooker Sinjai Chamniankan went closer to have a better look of the animals but they retreated in the crevice, showing only the tip of their snouts.

Sinjai said: ‘The little lizards appeared from the gap in the stairs. They looked like they were waiting for their mother.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
