Six people were killed and 1,327 others injured in traffic accidents across Türkiye on Monday during Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic festival celebrated in the country, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday.

A total of 824 traffic accidents were recorded in the country on Monday, the second day of the Eid al-Adha holiday, Yerlikaya said on social media platform X, noting that Turkish police are trying to control the traffic during the holiday and urge drivers to comply with rules.

Eid al-Adha is one of the biggest Islamic holidays of Türkiye, during which many Turkish families would travel across the country for vacations.

In addition, about 16,000 people were injured in Türkiye on the first day of Eid al-Adha, according to Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca.

Koca wrote in a social media post on platform X on Sunday that the injuries occurred during the traditional livestock-slaughtering ritual due to a lack of professional skills.

Every year, Turkish media is inundated with reports of "amateur butchers" who injured themselves during the slaughtering process.
