Canada: Global tech conference holds final Toronto iteration
Toronto, Canada - June 17, 2024
Storyline:
Collision 2024, one of the world's largest technology conferences, is currently in full swing in Toronto, Canada, marking the final year for the city dubbed "Silicon Valley of the North," to host the event as the conference, which began in 2019, will be moving to Vancouver next year.
Thousands of tech experts, startups, and investors from over 130 countries have gathered to discuss the rapid advancements of technologies especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its implications for the future of startups and the tech industry as a whole.
Casey Lau, a spokesperson for the conference, highlighted the current buzz in the tech world around where AI will take the world in the coming decade.
Moving to Vancouver has brought on a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation, according to Lau, who also shared his enthusiasm for Vancouver's unique tech ecosystem.
The transition to Vancouver promises to bring a fresh perspective to the conference, with a focus on emerging technologies and an alternative cultural vibe from Toronto's east coast counterpart.
This year's four-day event, which opened on Monday, will conclude on Thursday.

"A lot of these AI startups, they're raising billions of dollars, right? But at the same time, Geoffrey Hinton is telling us, are we able to control this, that this thing is exponentially faster than he even expected. So, I feel like what's going to happen in the next few years is going to be a big, big change. The big talk right now in Silicon Valley is about how the one-person billion-dollar companies are coming, assisted by AI. This is something that is changing the world.";

"I was born and raised in Vancouver, so I'm very excited that we have the show in Vancouver. But you know, there's a different vibe between Toronto, east coast and west coast. Vancouver is very well known for video games, AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), special effects, its proximity to Silicon Valley, its proximity to Asia. I feel like it could be a hot spot, space and a whole different lot of new kind of technologies will be the focus of that show.";
