A couple was horrified to find a live cobra in an Xbox controller they ordered online from Amazon.

Tanvi and her husband, both engineers living in Bangalore, India, bought the gaming accessory from Jeff Bezos' multinational tech company on June 14, which took two days to receive.

However, Tanvi said she and her husband were shocked upon discovering a snake sticking to the tape that sealed the box when it arrived on June 16.

Footage shows the cobra's neck stuck on the sticky part of the tape as it tries to pull itself away. The couple put the Amazon parcel in a bucket while waiting for wildlife officers to arrive.

Tanvi said: ‘We ordered the Xbox controller two days ago from Amazon and received a live snake in the package.'

The young professional said that the delivery man handed the package to them so the snake could not have slithered from the vicinity.

She added: ‘The package was directly handed over to us by the delivery partner and not left outside.

‘We live on Sarjapur road and captured the entire incident on camera, plus we have eyewitnesses.'

The snake, identified as a spectacled cobra, was later caught and released, but Tanvi questioned the American company for alleged breaches in safety.

She said: ‘This is clearly a safety breach caused solely by Amazon's negligence and their poor transportation or warehousing hygiene and supervision.

‘Where is the accountability for such a serious lapse in safety?'

Tanvi said she reported the matter to Amazon and were given a refund.

She added: ‘We did receive a complete refund, but what do we get for risking our lives here with a highly venomous snake?'

Meanwhile, an Amazon Help customer representative said in response to Tanvi: ‘We're sorry to know about the inconvenience you've had with the Amazon order.

‘We'd like to have this checked. Please share the required details here, and our team will get back to you soon with an update.'

India has the world's highest diversity of cobra species, with more than 15 species. The spectacled cobra found in the couple's Amazon parcel has a powerful post-synaptic neurotoxin venom that can cause respiratory failure and paralysis in untreated victims.
