Passengers were left sweltering in their seats when the air con was not turned on during a flight in India.

The Boeing 737 operated by SpiceJet was waiting to take off from Delhi flying to Darbhanga when the system is believed to have malfunctioned this morning, June 18.

Footage shows those onboard flight SG476 fanning themselves inside the hot and stuffy cabin. Several passengers reportedly began to feel unwell, with temperatures said to be reaching 40 degrees Celsius.

Passengers said they were waiting inside the plane for an hour before the air con was turned on and it could take off.

Passenger Rohan Kumar said: 'I was travelling from Delhi to Darbhanga with SpiceJet. At the Delhi airport after the check-in, they did not switch on the air-conditioning (AC) for an hour.

'The temperature inside was 40 degrees. The passengers were suffering. The air-conditioner was switched on when the flight took off.'

SpiceJet has not commented on the issue.

Earlier this month, passengers stripped off while others collapsed from dehydration inside a plane cabin when the air conditioning system failed before their flight.

The group of athletes, trainers, and reporters had attended the IFMA Senior World Championships 2024 in Athens, Greece, and were departing for Doha, Qatar, on Qatar Airways flight QR204 when the plane's cooling system suddenly malfunctioned on June 10.
