USCG heroes save five from fiery boat near Monterey
A swift and heroic rescue operation unfolded on June 10, 2024, as the US Coast Guard Station Monterey responded to a distress call from a 48-foot cabin cruiser named II Knotty, which had caught fire two miles off the coast of Moss Landing.
The 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Monterey arrived promptly at the scene to evacuate the five individuals onboard the blazing vessel. With precision and urgency, the crew ensured the safe transfer of all passengers to safety.
Following the successful evacuation, the Coast Guard crew initiated towing operations to bring the damaged vessel back to shore. Concurrently, the Monterey Fire Department moved in to extinguish the flames engulfing II Knotty.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of those rescued but confirmed that all five individuals were safely evacuated without injuries. The collaborative efforts between the US Coast Guard and the local fire department underscored the importance of coordinated responses in maritime emergencies.
