This is the moment a terrified tourist was mugged by a troupe of wild macaques looking for food.

The video shows the woman covered in monkeys that were even climbing up the wall to get to her in the belief that she had hidden food.

While some clung to her head and shoulders, others appeared to be trying to get inside her bag as she tried to push them away and at one point aimed a kick at one of the monkeys.

An eyewitness said that the woman had food in her bag which sent the macaques into a frenzy at the Qianling Mountain near the city of Guiyang, in Guizhou, China, on June 14.

Onlooker Ms Zhu, said: 'The surrounded woman's ordeal ended when she finally took out a bag of bananas and apples and the monkeys ate them and stopped pestering her.'
