A valuable pillar from a 17th-century fountain, stolen in January 2023 from Lucena, Cordoba, has been recovered by the Guardia Civil. Two individuals are under investigation as suspects in the crimes of theft and damage to historical heritage.

The pillar, classified as a Cultural Heritage Site (BIC) due to its historical significance, was stolen from Cortijo del Duque, located in Lucena. According to investigations, the thieves used heavy machinery, possibly a crane or tractor, to uproot the pillar from its original location.

Upon discovering the theft, the Guardia Civil launched an investigation that led to the recovery of the pillar and the identification of two individuals as suspects. The pillar was found on a property in the municipality of Cabra, Cordoba.

The two individuals under investigation are currently free pending trial. They face potential charges for theft and damage to historical heritage, offenses that carry possible prison sentences and substantial fines.

The recovery of the pillar marks a positive development for the historical heritage of Lucena and Cordoba. However, this case underscores the need to strengthen security measures to protect such assets, which are integral to the cultural identity of our communities.
