Brazil: Military Brigade Military Brigade Releases Rescued 23 Wild Birds into Natural Habitat in Brazil
Erechim, Brazil - June 19, 2024
A commendable effort by the Military Brigade, facilitated through the 3rd Environmental Battalion (BABM), culminated in the successful reintegration of 23 wild birds into their native surroundings this Wednesday, June 19th, within Erechim's hinterlands.
Prompted by anonymous reports, BABM teams intervened by rescuing these birds from illegal captivity within residential settings across Erechim. The seized birds, including species like Frade, Trinca-ferro, Cardeal Verdadeiro, Azulao, Curio, and Canario-da-terra, were promptly placed under the care of a biologist associated with the Military Brigade's Environmental Command. This dedicated professional volunteered their expertise, ensuring each bird received necessary veterinary care and rehabilitation.
Captain Jeberton Dalmora, commanding the 2nd Environmental Company of the 3rd BABM, highlighted the meticulous process involved: "Many of these wild birds required specialized evaluation, medical treatment, and dietary adjustments to prepare them for a successful return to their natural habitats."
The reinsertion initiative underscores BABM's ongoing commitment to preserving local biodiversity and combating wildlife trafficking, aiming to safeguard Brazil's diverse avian species for future generations.
