This is the heartwarming moment traffic police formed a convoy to escort a stray dog running loose on a Thai motorway.

Footage shows the officers on motorcycles driving behind the pooch to protect it from vehicles as it ran along the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 19 evening.

They eventually plucked the canine off the pavement when it stopped to rest.

Officers at the expressway's command centre said they sprang into action after spotting the dog weaving through traffic on the road's surveillance cameras.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand jokingly wrote in an online post: 'Expressway traffic officers led a force to surround the dog. No identifying documents were found on him, so he was 'arrested' and escorted off the motorway.'
