Huge Godzilla-esque monitor lizard caught as it rampages through home
A huge Godzilla-esque monitor lizard rampaging through a home was caught by volunteers in Thailand.
The hulking beast was found by wildlife rescuers hiding behind a water storage tank at the residence in Saraburi province on June 21.
However, when they tried to drag it away, it scurried away with surprising speed, and took cover under a hedge.
An officer grabbed its tail, but it snapped at him before fleeing under a car in the garage.
Using a broom, the team poked the hissing lizard out of its hiding spot and covered its head with a towel to keep it from biting. They bound its limbs with rope and took it away on a motorcycle to be released into a forest.
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
