Buddhist devotees furious as temple's monk is caught with stash of sex toys and hardcore porn
A Buddhist monk was defrocked for allegedly keeping a stash of sex toys, drugs, and hardcore porn.
Phra Vee, 35, reportedly sold contraband to the youth and invited men to have sex with him at the sacred temple in Samut Prakan on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand.
Police raided his room following a complaint about his unsavoury activities at the place of worship in the Phra Samut Chedi area.
Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) officers arranged a sting operation pretending to be youths buying drugs from the monk. He fell into the trap - even inviting the lads back to his room - before arresting him on June 18.
In a press release, the joint police unit said they found 3.6 grammes of crystal meth in a sachet, several syringes, and other drug paraphernalia in Vee's room.
They also seized condoms, lube, poppers, and women's clothes hidden in plastic boxes.
On the disgraced monk's phone, they found a channel filled with hardcore gay pornography.
The religious leader allegedly admitted to selling drugs to customers and having sex with men in his room.
He said he also goes out partying with his friends - against the law for monks - and prowls for one night stands at nightclubs.
He claimed to have ordered his meth and ketamine stash from a certain 'Bee'.
Officers planned to have the monk order another delivery from Bee, but the goods were delivered via an app-based courier service.
An MPB spokesperson said: 'The monk, Phra Vee, has been taken to the Ban Khlong Suan Police Station for further legal action. As for the other suspect, Bee, the police will investigate further to find him.'
Meanwhile, Vee was defrocked and kicked out of the temple.
According to Thai law, carrying Category I drugs, including LSD and ecstasy, for 'disposal or possession for the purpose of disposal', has a maximum punishment of the death sentence or life in prison. The most severe punishments are reserved for those who 'produce of import' the substances, while simply possessing the drugs can land offenders in jail for up to 10 years.
Dealing the lesser Category 2 drugs, which include cocaine and ketamine, can carry a life sentence while possession alone has a punishment of five years.
