STANDUP (English): YU JIAMING, Xinhua correspondent
"On Friday morning, Guilin Railway Station resumes operation after a two-day suspension of passenger transportation services. Behind me, the entry and exit of passengers are taking place in an orderly manner. The city of Guilin, a popular tourist destination in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was experiencing its worst floods since 1998 as heavy rainfall continues to batter southern China. For safety reasons, the Guilin Railway Station partly suspended transportation services beginning on Wednesday because of flooding in the adjacent square and inside the station's waiting area."
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): LU JINMEI, Staff member at Guilin Railway Station
"Before the flood peak arrived, we had already activated a Level-III emergency response to flooding. We acted in accordance with the contingency plan. Amid the urgent situation, we ensured the safety of passengers, and then organized staff members to rescue our equipment."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Guilin, China.
