US: High-Speed Collision Narrowly Misses Colorado Sergeant Assisting Stranded Motorist on Highway 71

Sergeant Cole Britton narrowly avoided serious injury while assisting a stranded motorist on Highway 71 near milepost 74 on the afternoon of June 14. The incident occurred at 2:55 PM when Sgt. Britton, directing traffic with emergency lights activated behind the disabled vehicle, noticed an approaching vehicle traveling at high speed.
Realizing a collision was imminent, Sgt. Britton and the stranded motorist quickly moved to safety just before the speeding vehicle crashed into his patrol car. The impact resulted in the driver of the second vehicle being transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Colorado State Patrol has initiated an investigation into the crash to determine the circumstances leading to the collision. Sgt. Britton, reflecting on the incident, credited effective training, preparation, and some fortune for his safe return home to his family.
Authorities expressed gratitude for the swift response from emergency personnel and community support during this challenging situation.
