Yemen - June 19, 2024

Storyline:
Yemen's Houthi forces have escalated attacks on U.S. and British naval vessels in the Red and Arabian Seas over the past month, employing advanced weaponry to express solidarity with Gaza.

The Houthi group said in a statement on Saturday that its armed forces had launched ballistic missiles at the U.S. aircraft carrier Eisenhower in the northern Red Sea.

In the past month, the Houthis targeted the American aircraft carrier Eisenhower in four major operations, stating the escalation is part of the fourth phase of their support for Gaza, as announced by the Yemeni government at the end of May. The two most recent attacks this week prompted the U.S. military to order the vessel home after an eight-month deployment.

The Houthi military campaign has sparked widespread popular demonstrations in support of the attacks on US-British ships. Yemenis, blaming America for the massacres in Palestine, are calling for increased retaliatory actions in response to recent U.S.-British strikes on Yemen.

The Yemeni government claims the Houthi armed forces are enhancing their military arsenal and capabilities with undisclosed weapons. Last Friday, they unveiled the domestically made Tuafan-1 drone boat, known for its speed, high maneuverability, stealth and the ability to target both stationary and moving maritime targets.

"The Yemeni armed forces identified weaknesses and worked hard to develop very strong military industries, such as various ballistic missiles and drones. They have excelled in striking ships, including the American aircraft carrier Eisenhower, which was targeted for the fourth time. Last month had two operations, as well as two operations during this week against the aircraft carrier. This shows that the Yemeni armed forces and government want the United States to capitulate.";
