A fisherman posed with a 200kg Mekong giant catfish he caught in a lake in Thailand.

Nattawat Somsri, 30, hauled in the leviathan while angling from a rowing boat with friends at the Rong Sak Reservoir in Phayao province in the north of the country on June 24.

They put the beast into a pickup truck to sell at the local market.

Nattawat said: 'There are big fish in this lake but this is one of the heaviest anyone here has ever seen. I don't think I'll catch another fish like that again.'

The Mekong giant catfish is the largest freshwater fish in the world. The heaviest ever caught was a 9ft long beast weighing 293kg (664lbs) in 2005 in northern Thailand.
