A Eucalyptus tree has become a hit with locals for the phallus-shaped growth coming from its trunk in Thailand.

The amusing penis tree was found along the roadside in the northern province of Phayao on June 19.

Footage shows the 20-inch-long wooden growth sprouting around 10ft from the eucalyptus tree's base. In the middle of the swollen end of the protrusion was a slit, making the entire thing resemble the glans of a male member.

Other locals likened the growth to the head of a snake or mythical naga.

Amazed resident Noi Tesamut said: 'I frequently pass by this area, but I've never seen such a peculiar thing before. I stopped to take a picture and everyone agreed it looked like a penis, so I called the local news reporter.'

Last year, a tree with a similar penis-like growth became a lucky shrine for superstitious locals in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Villagers began leaving offerings at the tree believing it would bring them good luck.

Eucalyptus trees are a common sight in Thailand. They were introduced in the 1950s as a fast-growing tree species that could be used to reforest degraded land and provide a source of income for local people.

Eucalyptus is a hardwood tree that is native to Australia. It is known for its tall, straight growth habit and its fragrant leaves.
