Finding and viewing baby elephants while on safari in the African wild is always a real treat. Baby elephants are one of the cutest animals out in the wild and they always deliver some of the cutest and most heart-warming moments on a safari. While on safari in the Kruger National Park, we stopped to watch small herd of elephants standing along a river. It looked like they just finished drinking and started making their way out of the riverbed, climbing up a steep riverbank. While it looked so easy for the adults to get up the riverbank, there was one tiny baby elephant that found the steep riverbank a real challenge. The poor little elephant still looked so clumsy and helpless while attempting to climb up the embankment. The elephant calf made several unsuccessful attempts to climb out by itself. The baby elephant’s front feet just kept slipping down and it didn’t look sure footed. While watching this we all felt sorry for the little elephant struggling so much. Soon after, the mother elephant realized that her baby was struggling, and it was not going to get up the riverbank by itself. It was incredible to see then how the mother elephant carefully used her trunk to slowly lift her baby up onto the riverbank. We felt great relief seeing the baby elephant getting the help it needed from its mother. It was an incredible heartwarming sighting for everyone after seeing how caring and gentle elephants are with their babies.
