Julian Assange lands in Bangkok on freedom flight for Australia
A private jet carrying Julian Assange lands in Bangkok this afternoon to refuel for the second leg of the hacker's freedom flight to Australia.
The Bombardier Global 6000 left London Stanstead on Monday afternoon but the plane - which has a range of around 7,000 miles - touched down at the Don Mueang International Airport serving the Thai capital at 12:32 local time.
Without leaving the airport, Assange departed again at 9 pm to fly to the Northern Mariana Islands, which is a U.S. territory, to complete paperwork before continuing the flight to Australia.
Assange had spent years holed up at the Ecuadorian Embassy in Knightsbridge, London, and then Belmarsh prison for allegedly hacking confidential U.S. databases and releasing the material through his site Wikileaks.
But the High Court released him on Monday following negotiations with U.S. prosecutors. Assange was born in Australia and will return there, following his brief stop in the Thai capital.
