Jewellery shop robber who disguised himself in burqa finally caught in India
A jewellery shop thief who wore a burqa to hide his identity was finally caught in India.
CCTV footage shows the veil-wearing suspect brandishing a knife as he threatened store owner Sesharam at the Jagadamba Jewellery store in Medchal, Hyderabad, on June 20.
The man reportedly stabbed Sesharam in the shoulder leaving him bleeding as another suspected burglar in a helmet tried to ransack the shelves.
However, the quick-thinking owner managed to shove aside the attackers and escape onto the streets to call for help, prompting the pair to escape empty-handed on a motorcycle.
Sesharam and his son chased after them wielding stools before police were called to the scene.
Senior Hyderabad police officer Narsimha Reddy said specialised teams were formed to review the CCTV footage in the vicinity.
The officers managed to trace the suspects, who were arrested at the Nampally train station.
The men were identified as Salman, 23, and Nazim Aziz Kotadia, 36, both linked to other robbery cases.
Cops seized from them two phones, a backpack emblazoned with the word 'THINK' on it matching the CCTV footage, gloves, a black burqa, and a Pulsar bike.
Officer Narsimha said: 'The robbers' use of Hindi inside the shop suggests they could be associated with the Bawariya Gang, notorious for snatching and robbery cases across Hyderabad.'
Meanwhile, Sesharam was taken to a hospital and was expected to make a full recovery soon.
