Coconut husks float in muddy soup down flooded road
Coconut husks floated on a flooded road making it impassable for cars.
Footage shows the dirty water flowing along the path as drivers and motorcycle riders were stranded in front of shops in Batangas, the Philippines, on June 23.
The debris was swept away from a nearby plantation and caused heavy traffic in the area.
One of the drivers, JM Icban, who had to stop, said: ‘We were on our way home from Tagaytay when suddenly it started raining heavily. By the time we reached Lemery, Batangas, the water level was rising, and then suddenly, there were coconuts floating around with us.'
Local authorities had to clear the coconuts off the road in the morning to help return traffic to normal.
The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
