A long-lived African Cape porcupine celebrated her 20th birthday at a zoo in Oregon, USA.

The senior porcupine named Nolina marked the milestone at the Oregon Zoo on June 24.

Zoo staff said Nolina maintains her vitality through brisk morning walks and exploring the zoo's diverse habitats.

Zookeeper Kristina McMahon said: 'Her walks are shorter now, but she's still active and curious. She enjoys her favourite snacks of corn on the cob, apples, and sweet potatoes as rewards for her efforts.'

African cape porcupines like Nolina are among the largest porcupine species globally, boasting impressive black-and-white quills that can exceed a foot in length. Despite their formidable appearance, these creatures are known for their gentle nature, only deploying their quills defensively when threatened.
