A pair of cave divers who went missing for two days were found alive by rescuers in Spain.

The nature explorers Alfonso and Paloma were expected to finish the spelunking trail in Soba, Cantabria, on June 22 but failed to show up, so their friend contacted authorities for help early on June 23.

They were searched by a team of 60 rescuers and were found having difficulty exiting the cave due to disorientation. They were saved on June 24.

Footage shows the volunteers climbing down the cave's narrow mouth and following an underground stream until they reached the cavers, who were both in their 40s.

Alfonso said: ‘We realised our predicament after repeatedly passing the same spot. We couldn't find out the way out on our own.'

He added they survived on water and food they packed while awaiting rescue.

The operation included ground searches within the cave's main gallery and aerial searches utilizing helicopters and drones due to difficult terrain and dense fog.

They were found unharmed in a side gallery of the cave in the afternoon.
