These pictures show the damage caused to a special needs school that was evacuated after a vehicle crashed into it.

Emergency services were called to Alderman Knight School in Ashchurch, Glos., just before 8.30am today. (Wed)

A woman in her 40s has been since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.

Gloucestershire Police said no injuries had been reported but the building was evacuated to assess potential structural damage.

Construction workers could be seen replacing panels of cracked glass at the main entrance to the school.

The front doors also appeared to have been removed.

A breakdown lorry was also pictured towing away a black Volkswagen Sharan 2.0 TDI with a crumpled bonnet and a mangled front right bumper.

A collisions investigation team and half a dozen police cars were present, behind closed security gates and police tape.

A police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently responding to a report that a vehicle has collided with a building in the Ashchurch area of Tewkesbury."

"Police were called to Alderman Knight School on Ashchurch Road shortly after 8.25am this morning and no injuries have been reported."

Parents of the school and members of the community have been left shocked.

One parent said: "My child goes to this school, and the phone call I got from him crying scared as anything, I don't wish that on any off you, this is a special school with kids with special needs think what impact this has had on them."

Alderman Knight caters for children aged 7 to 19 with moderate and additional learning difficulties, complex needs and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

The school shares a site with Tewkesbury Academy, which made headlines a year ago when a maths teacher was stabbed.

The school was placed on lockdown while firearms officers pursued and arrested an 18-year-old suspect two hours later.
