Secunderabad, India - June 26, 2024
In a significant operation coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Railway Police, led by the Chandana Drug Disposal Committee in southern India's Telengana, incinerated 1,575 kg of cannabis worth approximately 4 crore ($478,607.20).
The incident took place in Secunderabad city on June 26.
Visuals showed the seized drugs and how they were burnt inside the furnace.
According to reports, the destruction took place at Roma Industries Bio Medical Waste Treatment Company in Tukkapur, Bhuvanagiri District. Key officials, including Chandana Deepti, Chairman of the Drug Disposal Committee, and Railway DSP S.N. Javed, supervised the incineration.
Chandana Deepti revealed in a press conference that the cannabis had been seized from various railway stations across the region, including Secunderabad, Kachiguda, Nizamabad, Khammam, Warangal, Kazipet, Nalgonda, and Vikarabad, during 2022-2023.
Expressing satisfaction with the operation, Deepti highlighted the formation of a special team dedicated to combating drug trafficking. She emphasized that strict actions would be taken against offenders found with over 20 kg of drugs, including potential property confiscation to ensure maximum legal punishment. Deepti also appealed to the public to report any drug-related activities to help curb the menace of drug abuse in the region.
