Residents were today repairing roads that were damaged by landslides as storms killed at least 20 people across Nepal.

Footage shows locals on mountain roads clearing rocks and other debris on the outskirts of the capital Pokhara.

The filmer said: 'We reached Pokhara from the village after the heavy rainfall from last night. We began repairing the potholes that were on the road from the landslides, to allow vehicles to pass. Everyone has been told be careful and follow measures to prevent injuries from floods, landslides and lightning.'

The torrential weather has seen heavy rain, landslides and lightning across the mountainous country, which seems monsoons from mid-June to mid-September every year.

Officials warned residents living in villages along the river to be extra cautious.

The government issued a warning, saying: 'Due to heavy rainfall since yesterday, the settlements around the Bijaypur River were in danger and the road was blocked due to landslide on the highway. We request all the people of Pokhara Metropolitan to please be vigilant.'
